New Year's News

"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself."

And in other news:

Beth Revis’s book Across the Universe is coming out on 1/11/11. (Cool release date.) I read the first chapter, and was hooked. You can read the first chapter HERE. And she’s got an epic contest going on right now. Link is on my sidebar.
Although I tried to win an ARC on every contest I could find, I failed so I’ll have to wait to buy it in a week with everyone else. On the upside, I did win a little swag from her last contest, including an autographed postcard and bookmark. Sweet!

Last but not least news, my blogging buddy The Words Crafter is giving away some of her favorite things. Stop by HERE.

Any new year’s news you want to share?

  2. Whoa, thanks so much for the shout out!!!!

I haven't heard of that Neil Gaiman book; I gotta go find me a copy. Love that dude and his New Year's Eve wish is just wonderful.

I meant to order a copy of Across the Universe and forgot. Gotta remedy that, too!

You're my hero, btw. I don't know how you can work, write, take care of two kids and a husband, and STILL manage to read 100 books. *bowing* Good luck!

I'm working on a way to add about 5 hours to the day....when I get it all sorted out, I can retire and buy a publishing company. You'll be set for life :P

Thanks again for the shout out and the reminders!!!!

  3. Read the interview....your new WIP sounds so intriguing!!!! Congrats on the interview!!!

  4. I only read 28 books this year so 100 is too big of a goal. But I commend all of you that do go for it!!!!!!!!!

  5. Last year I had NO time for reading and this year? Is it wrong to want to go back and read the classics you merely used the cliff notes on? My goal :)

  14. @ Katie, book 4?! You're scaring me. My first two books were short, but the one I'm reading now is longer.

@ The Words Crafter, Gaiman's book is short. I read it in a couple of hours. Not as good as The Graveyard Book, but fun. I'm lending it to my Norwegian student since it's based on a Norwegian tale.

@ Kelly, I'm sure I won't get even close. But I'm pretty competitive with myself so you never know!

@ Jules, ha! I bet you'll get more out of the classics this time around.

@ Nick, happy new year to you too.

@ Kelly, I love that quote too. No wonder he keeps reusing it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @ Emy, thanks. I need all the luck I can get!

@ Nas, I'll come on over and check out the new interview soon.

@ Brigid, that's exciting! I'll keep my eye out for it.

@ Jessica, I fear I can't do it either. A FB friend just posted that she read something like 173 books last year. She was unemployed, but still...

@ Jen, there's also a 50 YA challenge. You can sign up for either or both.

@ Old Kitty, awww, thanks. It's only 1/5 so don't feel too much pressure to have news yet!

  17. I have nothing. No exciting news. Nada. Okay, one thing. My DH and I are going on a vacation this year. A real one, not a work one. Can't even remember the last time this happened. Woot-woot.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ Elena, it sounds like a cool contest. I'll have to think of something to enter.

@ Helen, a real vacation is pretty cool. Have fun! The year is young, so I'm sure you'll have more to share in the near future.

  19. Hope you have a great 2011! And not too much stress.

  20. What a lovely wish you have made in your first paragraph. An' may I pass such a beautiful wish right back to you? It's too nice to not share it with you.

Good luck with your 100 books!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ Robyn, I didn't know you and Beth were critique partners. Does that mean you got to critique Across the Universe? Too cool.

I just won an ARC of the book on Shannon O'Donnell's blog. I'm so excited!

@ Nancy (N.R. Williams), I wish you the best with the book. It sounds great. When it's released, I'll probably give it a shout out on FB.

    @ Susan, I hope you're making posters for 1/11/11 for your daughter's 11th. That's way too cool.

  34. Oooo! I'm off to read your interview!

My big new year's news is that I've finally joined the 21st century and bought a laptop. And now the learning curve begins...

    ReplyDelete
  35. My New Year's resolution last year was to read a mere ten Pulitzer Prize winning books. I think I only read three and then I got hooked on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and then I don't know what happened. So, I am not even going to kid myself with one hundred.

I will, however, read your interview- one hundred times.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @ Christy, thanks for checking out the links!

@ Julie, I love my laptop. I can write anywhere, anytime. I'm sure you'll love yours too.

@ Missed Periods, we always aim high and achieve less when it comes to reading. There are too many books.

If you read my interview 100 times, it totally counts on your reading list as one book read.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wish I had enough time to read a 100+ books! I probably come close to buying that many, though. LOL

May your New Year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness, just like Neil Gaiman said.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ Mary Anne, I hear you about buying them. I buy way more than I read!

Thanks for tossing the Gaiman quote back at me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congrats on all the books you read! I thought I read a lot but didn't come close to that number. :) Will hop over and check out your interview.

    Harpy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congrats on this accomplishment! We read many of the same books this year. Best of luck with your reading challenge 2012! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  41. @ Karen, I don't think I've read that many books in a year since I was a kid.

    Happy New Year!

@ Nicole, I wonder which books we read in common. Lots of YA, I bet. Happy 2012 to you!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love that quote by Neil Gaiman. Thanks for sharing, and for your inspiration, and motivating blog. May it be a wonderful, productive, writing, and healthy 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love seeing your list, Theresa! I find it so interesting to see what my other writer friends are reading. A lot of oldies, but goodies as well as new books. I've read much of your list, too. Not this year, but in the past couple years. And it sure is fun to see both my books on there - thank you so much!

Oh, what did you think of The Kneebone Boy? I just saw the other day that Ellen Potter has a new book coming out in February called THE HUMMING ROOM. I've already pre-ordered! ;-)

And did you like CHIME? Haven't read that yet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ooh, so many books! My list comes out tomorrow morning.
What did you think of the Uglies series?
    Wasn't Dogsled Dreams fun?
And yay for Hughes and Dahl and Lowry and Blume and Konigsburg and the Indian in the Cupboard!
May I ask why you read Goblet of Fire? Was it a reread?

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ Carol, thank you. I hope to see you at some New England writer-related gathering soon.

@ Kimberley, I loved the voice of The Kneebone Boy. The end was a bit of a deflater for me, but I think I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.

I'll have to look up The Humming Room!

Speaking of voice, Chime has it in spades. An unreliable narrator--it was done so well. Chime was one of my favorites for 2011.

@ Deniz, I liked the Uglies series, but didn't love it. Definitely a unique idea. Dogsled Dreams was fun. Audiobooks counted for the goal, and we listened to it on one of our long drives. But I think I may reread the series sometime this year.
