If I Could Be Anyone...

Phoebe: Come on, you don't think we'll be 60 and still living together, sharing clothes and a cat.

Piper: Well now that you put it that way, no, I don't want to live with you anymore.

- From TV show “Charmed”

Talli Roland is having a Watching Willow Watts book launch TODAY! Since I love alliterations, I wanted to participate.

Willow Watts lives a predictable and dull life. A You Tube video, in which she bears a striking resemblance to Marilyn Monroe, propels her to stardom. Will Willow lose herself in the process?

Talli’s challenge:

Now is your chance to make your superhero, film star, or Rock God fantasies come true.

“If I could be anyone, I’d be…”

I was torn, so I chose two. (I know - I’m so difficult.)

In the 1990s, I loved the TV show Xena: Warrior Princess. While she might have had chemistry with a guy or two, she didn’t depend on a man. (Do you hear me, Bella?) She could FIGHT. She was FIERCE.

In homage to her, I’ve named my GPS, Xena: Warrior Navigator.

The 1990s also brought the TV show Charmed, featuring brunette sisters. Sure, there were attractive love interests. But what made the show great was the dynamic between the sisters.

Though they didn’t find out they were witches until they’d reached adulthood, they were pretty prepared. Prue had an art history degree, which helped her figure out where ancient relics originated and how to decipher the writing. Piper was a chef, so she could whip up potions like nobody’s business. They’d obviously taken martial arts because they could take down any badass demons that dared to mess with them.

Their powers were pretty cool. Prue hurled objects and people. Pipe froze objects and people. And Phoebe had premonitions. Since she didn’t have an active power until later (levitation), the martial arts became especially important. When the sisters combined their powers, they were a formidable force.

Phoebe: I'll do what I should've done a while ago which is vanquish your sorry ass.

When they're not vanquishing demons, they read.
(Did you notice Prue's shirt is the color of Talli's new book?)

While I may be dark-haired like these heroines, I’m not physically strong. I can’t wield a sword. I’m don’t have any magical powers (which irks me). Xena: Warrior Princess and Prue Halliwell possess strength I admire. On the upside, I don’t constantly have enemies after me.

Prue: I mean, well, you are a warlock magnet.

  11. I like a kick-ass chick. I have one in my books too. She beats people up and slices and dices them. Or shoots them. Whatever works.

  12. I loved your choices, Theresa! Oh I loved watching Xena! I liked Prue, too! :) I loved Phoebe's line: "I'll do what I should've done a while ago which is vanquish your sorry ass!"

  15. I did like charmed but they kinda screwed up the series with all the cast member changes.

  16. Hmm, Xena or one of the charmed witches? Decisions, decisions. They all suffered through much, and Xena did hook up with Hercules, but the witches has awesome power. Nope, would rather still be me. :)

  19. Xena and Charmed! This needs to be made into a crossover series, stat.

  22. yours is my fave of the day.
who wouldnt want to be a warrior princess?

  23. These are great choices, and ones I can totally see you as, Theresa, although I know what you mean about the sword-wielding thing. My husband used to do Roman re-enactments, I can barely heft his sword and shield let alone imagine using them!

  24. I liked the Charmed sisters too, though I have to admit I liked Shannen Doherty's character better than Rose McGowan's. I think it'd be cool to have Prue's powers. I always wished they would've brought her back.

  26. i looove charmed! was so sad when Prue left. It was never quite the same with her gone. Still...I did love Pheobe's character. I think you could be a cross between Xena and Piper. Kick ass warrior-ess with some serious blowing up magical powers!

  27. They sound like strong characters. :)

And BTW: I love the new title of your blog!

  28. I never saw any of those shows but it sounds like the female characters were pretty tough and independent ladies. I certainly wouldn't want to be on Xena's bad side.

  30. Great choices!

BUT if you had to choose, which of the Charmed sisters would you choose to be?

  31. I love Charmed. My husband and I used to watch the reruns every Tuesday night and make quesadillas. There's no correlation between the show and the choice of cuisine, but that's how we did it.
    I want magic powers!

  32. Fantastic choice, Theresa! I like strong heroines!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I used to LOVE Xena too! I almost forgot about that show! :) Do you remember Hercules? Occasionally they used to blend the two.

  34. I think you should dress up like Xena, wield a sword, and do a VLOG!!!!

  35. Hmm, I don't know who I'd want to be. I like being me, only wouldn't mind losing about 10 pounds...:)

  36. Great choices! Never watched Charmed, but I think I would've liked that one.
