“Thoughts that leave me
Chasing after
My dreams disown me
Loaded with Danger”
- Song “Saved by Zero” The Fixx
When this video aired on MTV (which seemed to be every hour), I didn’t get it:
But this song came out and I started to like them.
And for an angsty teen like me, this song was perfect.
I listened to it all the time. It captured how utterly alone I felt.
He’s got an excellent mullet.
The Fixx didn’t have a lot of hits, but I have “One Thing Leads to Another” on my iPod and “Saved by Zero” is in constant rotation when I’m down.
Guess I’m an angsty adult too.
Honorable Mention: Flock of Seagulls

In other news, I have a vignette on page 12 in Issue #2 of
Vine Leaves Literary Journal today! YaY!
I loved these songs when I was a kid. I'm enjoying following your series on music. I haven't stopped by until today, but just know you're taking me back to a place I thought I'd never go again.
ReplyDeleteAnne, thank you for stopping by. For those who listened to music then, I think they've enjoyed hearing the music they've forgotten.
DeleteWow. I've never heard of the Fixx! I even had a listen to all three tracks and can't recognize any of them. Perhaps they didn't make it to Australia ... Congrats on Vine Leaves! ;o) xx
ReplyDeleteJessica, I have a feeling most Americans don't remember them. I don't know how much radio time they got. Thanks about Vine Leaves!
DeleteFinally, somebody else who loves the Fixx. I have always loved their music. They had such a unique sound, which is one thing I've liked the most about them. Great choice for an F day.
ReplyDeleteEric, glad to find another The Fixx fan. There aren't many of us!
DeleteThey didn't have a long run but they were big while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteAlex, agreed. A few bands just had their 1-3 big songs, and then faded away.
DeleteYou listened to some very fun music!!
ReplyDeleteJemi, thanks! Hope you had a good weekend.
DeleteI had never heard of them before, but I love these clips! And it's okay to be angsty :) I love sad music!
ReplyDeleteJulie, happy to know I'm not alone... um... not being happy.
DeleteI've never heard of them or these songs, not even the choruses rang a bell. Not sure I'm that keen...
ReplyDeleteAnnalisa, hope you like some of the other selections better.
DeleteThose are catchy songs. :) On my way over to read your vignette.
ReplyDeleteShelley, thanks for reading my vignette!
DeleteYep, Yep. I listened to them, too. You have great taste in music! :)
ReplyDeleteShannon, thank you! Hope you had a happy weekend.
DeleteYeah, I remember those songs. Been forever since I heard One Thing.
ReplyDelete- Eric
Eric, I hadn't heard Red Skies since the 1980s before I wrote this post.
DeleteI was never a huge Fixx fan. Sorry.... :D Not sure why.
ReplyDeleteOoh, congrats on another awesome story published!
SA, The Fixx wasn't for everyone.
DeleteThanks about the congrats.
Congrads, pal. I will head over to read it. You are wonderful. You know that right??
ReplyDeleteI never heard of Fixx. Feeling a little behind in music. *sigh* Love your style. You rock! :-)
Robyn, you're too nice.
DeleteI hope my 80s posts catch you up in music that's no longer relevant.
iTunes needs to send you a "thank you" note. I've been buying songs I had forgotten about due to your posts. :)
ReplyDeleteMary, thanks! I've been buying some music from other posts I've read too. I wonder if they've had a spike due to A to Z sales!
DeleteAngst is a good quality for a writer of young adult literature to have a grasp on. I'm sure it filters into your writing (or at least the memory of it).
ReplyDeleteMichael, I've got angst old and new to spare!
DeleteI had this cassette tape back in the day. :)
ReplyDeleteBrinda, ah, cassette tapes.
DeleteNope, don't like it, now or then. Congratulations on your publication!!
ReplyDeleteTonja, thanks for the congratulations!
DeleteOH, boy! Memories!!! Thanks for the vids!
ReplyDeleteTexas Playwright, glad you're enjoying the videos/memories.
DeleteGreat pick for F! I'm such an angsty adult it isn't even funny. We can angst together.
ReplyDeleteElana, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in angstiness.
DeleteGreat featured band and honorable mention! I love Seagulls' 'Space Age Love Song.'
ReplyDeleteOh wow!! What memories!!! LOL!! Awww one of the most thoughtful of bands!! And they truly don't make em like these anymore!!
ReplyDeleteAwww Theresa HUGE CONGRATULATIONS with your story "Left Behind"!
I loved it!! - people do read it!! It's lovely!!! Very sad! Sigh!!
Take care
x
Congrats on the latest publication. How many is that now?
ReplyDeleteI liked the Fixx. At least I liked those three songs. I remember the sounds of the songs of the early '80s, that synth stuff. That I miss.
Oh man, I didn't even know that was the name of the band, but yeah, I definitely remember their music. "One thing leads to another" was a great one.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats! Heading over to read now! :)
The Fixx weren't on my list of faves, but I can see why they appealed to a teen finding herself.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your publication in Vines. My story got the big 'R' this time, boo hoo. Maybe next time. I'll get across to read it when I have a minute, like, after April ends...
Denise
I had trouble placing The Fixx until you said One Thing...--that was a good one. I listened to Red Skies, but for some reason that does not ring a bell.
ReplyDeleteWell done Theresa and have a good weekend.
I never heard of this group but I love the lyrics.
ReplyDeletedreamweaver
I'm not familiar with The Fixx but after briefing those videos that you posed, I would probably listen to "Saved by Zero" again, among all of the three songs mentioned here.

I'm not familiar with the band FIXX, but I listened to the videos and I liked the music, thanks for the introduction!
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying the challenge,
Monica, Older Mommy Still Yummy
How could I forget The Fixx? Seems I did, though, because it's not listed on my 1980's F list.
ReplyDeleteBTW...congrats on your publication in Vine Leaves. I need to check that out.
Gotta love The Fixx!
ReplyDeleteI thought I didn't know this group, but I do remember the last song.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks for the seagulls honorable mention!
ReplyDeleteSaved by Zero was truly a "staple" song. Is it me or are songs just not as much fun today? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.
Red Skies, all the way, baby. :-)
ReplyDeleteSome Dark Romantic
I love their sound. I need to see if I have any of their mp3's.
ReplyDeleteOooh! I saw that you got published in Vine Leaves in their last blog post. Congrats. ^^
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brooke!
DeleteSo does not getting "Red Skies" mean you missed their first album, Shuttered Room? Some great songs. You must here "Stand or Fall," a haunting classic.
ReplyDeleteDonna, glad you loved it.
