INXS
The first song I ever heard by INXS was “The One Thing”. The song and the video were pretty sensual. As I reflect on these bands and singers, I realize that the young teen me and my friends spent hours loving being shocked about things that were overtly sexual or wondering if someone was gay if there was any gender bending in physical appearance. Neither of these ideas was new to music, but it was new to us.
I'll admit, I thought Michael Hutchence was hot.
Besides sexuality, he also sang of race. Here are lyrics to “Original Sin”:
“Dream on, white boy, black girl
Black boy, white girl
Dream on, the name of love, yeah
You thought what a pity
Original sin”
“Never Tear Us Apart” is one of my all-time favorite songs. I think it captures when I met my husband (who looked like Michael Hutchence back then), and I thought it would be a perfect wedding song (as explained in this previous POST).
And TODAY is our 18th wedding anniversary. We started off as friends when we were stuck taking early morning gym in order to graduate high school. Our worlds colliding was the best thing that ever happened to me. Happy anniversary, Mr. Milstein. I appreciate you Every. Single. Day.
This is for you (xo):
Love, Theresa xo
Unfortunately, Hutchence took his own life in 1998.
Here’s the last known video of him:
Shine on, Michael Hutchence.
Honorable Mention: Billy Idol
Hi Theresa. Great Aussie band. INXS are awesome but they've never been able to replace Michael. So sad that he died.

Good morning, Theresa. I hope you are having a great day. I loved INXS. I still do.
ReplyDeleteNever Tear us Apart came out the year I took my first trip to Ireland. Played it non-stop on my little tape player.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see mention of Idol. He'd have been my first choice of course. ;)
Happy Anniversary Therese !!!!
ReplyDeleteHad an email in my inbox only the other day that they'll be touring Australia soon again :-)But as Denise already said, nobody will ever replace Michael!
Not a Billy Idol fan, but Inxs, were OK.
ReplyDeleteI liked INXS, although I only know the really big hits, and he was kind of cute. I remember the day he died, very sad.
ReplyDeleteI loved Billy Idol! I had his poster on my wall.
I like INXS. I like even better your sweet Anniversary post. Happy Anniversary to you both.
ReplyDeleteAww! Happy Anniversary to you and Mr. Milstein! :D
ReplyDeleteAww...Happy Anniversary! INXS is cool, too. :)

ReplyDeleteand inxs is one of my all time faves! thanks for reminding me!
Aw, Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteMay you be serenaded with INXS songs to your heart's content today. :))
Loved INXS as a kid. Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations on your anniversary, Theresa! How wonderful that you met as high school sweethearts - and in gym no less :) I'm checking out this music clip right now. Loving it so far.
ReplyDeleteOh how I loved him and mourned him for so long. It felt like we lost so many great people back then. River Phoenix. Brandon Lee.
ReplyDeleteSo sad.
Heather
I look forward to these April 80s band posts so much! "Never Tear Us Apart" is also one of my favorites! It's so tragic that we lost another great one so young.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 18 years of marriage!!!!!!!!!
Happy Anniversary! I have a very distinct memory of "Never Tear Us Apart Too." Such a great song!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY DAY AND A HUGE CONGRADS TO MY SWEET PAL AND HER LOVING HUBBY!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!! (If you made it this long you're bound to be together for the rest of it.) Great story about you two. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I know INXS. They were talented.
So sad. Suicide. So very sad. My boys have a friend who had the world before him. He was so talented, that when he drew his self portrait, I thought it was a photograph. He was to graduate in high school early June. Suicide.
Aw, honey -- happy anniversary! Eighteen years, wonderful!
ReplyDelete'Original Sin' is musically excellent, as is 'Dancing on the Jetty.' Two of their sexier songs are 'Falling Down the Mountain,' and 'Not Enough Time.'
Another great post.
Aww! Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI can't watch the youttube clip here "This video contains content not available in your country"! Oh dear! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteAwww but it's a lovely romantic story to go with the song!! Yay! Take care
x
Happy Wedding Anniversary it is ours in just under two weeks time!
ReplyDeleteI miss INXS and their first lead singer. The whole game show thing they did to find another singer a few years back was just blah.
ReplyDeleteI like INXS too. Did you ever watch the Rockstar INXS TV program a few years back where they searched for a new singer. I loved it because it showcased rock and good music. I then saw them in concert with the new singer. Not Michael Hutchence but I did like them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! :)
ReplyDeleteHappiest Anniversary!!!!!! That is awesome! :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThat was the first song I ever heard by INXS. Shame how the lead singer died.
I loved INX!!! Thought they were brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy anniversary!!
Happy Anniversary! Awesome that you've known your husband since high school.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! Congratulations on 18 years of wedded bliss, and here's to many more years of love and happiness together to come!

ReplyDeleteWhoa what a blast from the past!!! What a sweet story (wow, H.S.!)--hope you have a gazillion more happy years!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo sad that so many creative people take their own lives. I think we need to do a lot more research into the brain to find out what the link is so we can help out these people.
I loved what you wrote about your husband. Happy Anniversary! I can see why you liked this band.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww! What a sweet story! And a lovely dedication. Happy Anniversary to you both!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree 100% - Michael Hutchence was SO TOTALLY HOT!!! May he rest in peace, bless him.
