But Talking Head won.
They were HUGE in the 80s.
“Burning Down the House” was a cool song:
So was “Psycho Killer” (a very cute guy in my school did an
acoustic version of this song in the high school talent show), which is shown
here live:
It didn’t matter that some of the songs were from the 1970s. (Just like Queen) Showing their videos
on MTV game them new life and a new audience.
Then they released “And She was”, which appealed to people
like my dad. The video was
innovative for its time (like Peter Gabriel’s “Big Time”):
They were a cool band. I still listen to their older songs.
“Love in an ocean, I can’t forget
My sweet sixteen, I would never regret
I wanna know, can you tell me?
I love to stay
Take me to the river, drop me in the water”
- “Take Me to the River” Talking Heads

LOVE how we showcased the same band! :o)
ReplyDeleteI love Tears for Fears, would have chosen them :D But Talking Heads are cool too of course!
ReplyDeleteThat Twisted Sister video still has legs on it. I saw it not too long ago on TV. Talking Heads- can't beat that~
ReplyDeleteTalking Heads were great. I also loved the band made up of just the girls, also a T, the Tom Tom Club. with, another T, Tina Weymouth. :0)
ReplyDeleteHaha.... You and Jessica think alike!!
ReplyDeleteFunny how you & Jessica featured the same band. I already read TRUTH--a great book--so I'll let someone else win. That's a great choice for "T" too.
ReplyDeleteTears for Fears for me! Yay! Take care

A few years ago our family of five drove to Ohio and Niagara Falls. We stopped at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and TAlking Heads was featured there and we bought their greatest hits cd and listened to it much of the way home so they remind me of that trip! My fave song is Psycho Killer.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, the Talking Heads take me right back to college days. Good times. We've both got music on the mind. My current post is about Bruce Springsteen.
ReplyDeleteTalking Heads is one of those bands whose songs I've heard but never knew who sang them. Now I know. :)
ReplyDeleteBurning down the house is a song that takes me right back to the 80s!
ReplyDeleteI loved Tears for Fears though!
They certainly had a unique sound. After following your series, I have def gotten more retro in my youtube habits.
ReplyDeleteThanks and enjoy your Monday.
I've got an album with an acounstic version of Psycho Killer on it - it's great, but I'm not sure I've ever heard the real version.
ReplyDeleteHa! Watched 'Flight of the Navigator' with my kids this weekend. (one of my favorite kid movies) and they, like the MC, had no idea who Twisted Sister was and were completely thrown off by the weirdness that was the 80's:)
ReplyDeleteLove Talking Heads, pal. This Must Be The Place is my favorite. But I love Twisted Sister too. Great choices, Theresa. Thought about you while you were at the conference. :-) Me and Steinbeck! BODACIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *wink*
ReplyDeleteIn my first "all by myself" apartment in grad school I had a neighbor that must have blared "Burning Down the House" at least ten times a day.
ReplyDeleteAnother great band choice. Great memories attached to those songs (although I don't remember Psycho Killer, actually).
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Tears For Fears! I thought Roland Orbazal hung the moon and the stars! Talking Heads kind of freaked me out a bit!
ReplyDeleteHi! Brand new to the blog and a new follower! I LOVE Talking Heads. My Building is my fav song by them and I saw David Byrne in concert in Seattle and maybe fell in love a little. :)
ReplyDeletePS - I'm also in the A-Z, if you'd like to stop by my blog:

I have also always been partial to "And She Was" :)
ReplyDeleteWow, haven't heard of these songs in a long time! Happy Monday! :)
ReplyDeleteI love Talking Heads - now. But when I was a young 'un, working at The Rat in Kenmore Square, Boston, I didn't. I was standing in the back of the club, watching them with Ric Ocasek (of The Cars, who played The Rat regularly in those days), and I said, "I don't get it. I just don't like these guys." And Ric said, "Well they're great." But then, he liked this horrible two-man band called Suicide so I didn't really trust his taste. Ah the good old days...
ReplyDelete"Lifetime Piling Up" was one of my favorites!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Talking Heads, still listen to them regularly. I think Once In A Lifetime is my favorite. Loved Til Tuesday and Tears for Fears too.
ReplyDeleteYay 80s music--I liked listening to Burning Down the House especially. Fun post and vids!
ReplyDeleteI always liked them. I respected them more when I learned that they started off punk. Although, I kind of blame David Byrne for that whole huge saggy jeans thing (remember that oversized suit he wore?).
ReplyDeleteLiz, so much was big. I don't know if we can hold him personally responsible. I just know I spent the decade looking like I was wearing an adult's clothes. Tragic.
DeleteI'd forgotten about talking heads! They did have some very cool songs. X
ReplyDeleteI love this band!
ReplyDeleteI'm not entering since I already have the book. Julia's book 1 was awesome.
Did you know Amy Mann from Til Tuesday recorded a song with Rush called Time Stands Still?
ReplyDeleteSorry, random fact there!
Alex, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me!
DeleteYour music choices always have me singing along in my head! Another great choice :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since I've listened to those songs. Awesome stuff!
ReplyDeleteI think I actually prefer the Twisted Sisters over Talking Head.
ReplyDeleteSonia Lal @ Story Treasury
Hey, going retro! Awesome ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading TRUTH, too!
I love Talking Heads. I'm on the Road to Nowhere- love that song!
ReplyDeleteAnother band I don't know! I'm starting to feel ashamed of my restricted taste in music...
