I finally held an advance copy of TIME & CIRCUMSTANCE.
It became real and surreal.
Suddenly, Vine Leaves Press is promoting my book.
With two months left,
I’m feeling the push
to promote my book.
I’m feeling the push
to promote my book.
Promote myself.
Yesterday, I visited a local poetry group.
In two weeks,
I’ll do my first poetry reading.
I teach, I have read excerpts of my kid lit aloud.
I don’t
know why this is SO HARD.
Maybe it’s because some parts are autobiographical.
My blog’s been up since 2009.
I’ve already shared a lot
about my life.
I ask myself, Why is
this different?
Finally, I’ve gotten to the bottom of things.
Even though I’ve critiqued poetry,
and even determined what
poetry is fit for a journal,
Now a publisher is taking a chance on
JUST ME.
People I don’t know will review my book.
I’d better get used to it.
Because I actually became a top seller for a time.
People are actually buying my book.
If you do too, I hope you enjoy it.
I wrote it from my heart.
xo,

Theresa
I'm in some good company.
It's such a beautiful cover. Enjoy the build up to publication day :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annalisa. Now I've got to figure out how to set up a blog tour. I guess that will be for my next post...
DeleteLove your cover, Theresa. And so excited for you. You've worked so hard to get where you are. A huge congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie. I keep reminding myself not to overthink everything and just enjoy it.
DeleteCongratulations on that top spot!
ReplyDeleteIt's cool to hold your own book in your hand, isn't it?
Yes, it is, Alex. At first, I read it through for typos. My daughter reminded me to enjoy it for a minute. Now it makes me smile.
DeleteCongratulations! Beautiful cover, and I love the title. Enjoy the ride.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth. In the book, I use the same James Baldwin quote about time and circumstance that I have on my sidebar.
DeleteA huge and wonderful congratulations. You deserve this!! May your book be a great success.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lynda. I appreciated your critique help back in the day.
DeleteCongrats! Enjoy every moment!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly!
DeleteCongrats! Big accomplishment with a poetry book. Vine Leaves - isn't that Jessica Bell's publishing company?
ReplyDeleteYes, Jessica has gone from lit mag editor to book editor. She's been doing great things with her publishing company.
DeleteSo exciting!!! Love the cover :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jemi!
DeleteThis is so great. I know that I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny. I hope you enjoy it! And I hope you can't find the myriad of errors you've found in Sarah's book.
DeleteWoohoo! This is awesome! Congratulations on the best selling status!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nas!
DeleteNow aren't you a happy bee these days :) The cover looks luxurious!
ReplyDeleteThanks, DEZMOND. Vine Leaves Press created a fabulous cover. It blew me away!
DeleteYour cover is so beautiful! Congrats on getting published and hitting a top list on Amazon! That's awesome and I wish you a lot more pre-orders and sales!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lexa. I know poetry doesn't often sell a ton, but I hope readers like it.
DeleteLove love love that cover, so golden! Congratulations :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, mshatch. I made my website more golden to match it. I feel like my blog look too blue next to it now!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous cover! Good luck with the release!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate!
DeleteCongratulations on your upcoming release! The cover is gorgeous. I wish you all the best with promotion. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chrys. I appreciate it.
DeleteThat's awesome Theresa! Congratulations! I'm sure you'll get good reviews of your book (and isn't it cool to be able to say "my book"?).
ReplyDeleteNeurotic Workaholic, it is kinda cool to be able to say my book. Thanks!
DeleteTheresa, many congratulations!! A marvelous accomplishment and the book looks wonderful! Big kudos for being an Amazon #1 Best Seller (it just happened to me this weekend on FORBIDDEN and is still at #1- yay!) :-) Big Hugs and off to pre-order!
ReplyDeleteKimberley, that's awesome about your book! I read your newsletter the other day. So glad things are going well.
DeleteAnd thank you for pre-ordering! It means a lot.
Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteAre there any plans to put out an e-version? (If not, I reckon I'll just have to order the paperback...)
I wish you much success.
Hi, Susan. Yes, there's an eversion for much cheaper than the paperback. Here's the link! Thanks. http://www.vineleavespress.com/time-and-circumstance-by-theresa-milstein.html
DeleteCongratulations, Teresa!!! It sounds like a nice book, I like the idea of a two-part theme. It seems by the Amazon review that there is a character who traverses through young ladyship to adult. I can't quite envision then, how the poetry and prose interact.
ReplyDeleteAmazon doesn't market it yet in Kindle?
My pictured fellow. He was a wooden figure, carved and fastened together by the piece. I found him at the entrance of a store in Gadans, Poland while traveling. I call him "Flirty Guy" because I first used him in a poem about flirting. Since I used him when I do not have, or do not wish, to use a real person. Like the elderly lady looking for a train seat, it just plain wasn't nice to take her picture. Then to post it!!! I do find though, that the Europeans are much more appreciative of the elderly and generally one will offer them (and me) their seat.
..
..
Gdansk, Poland. Sorry. Jim
Delete..
Good question, Jim. The first part is prose, which spans from teen years to being a parent. The second part is poetry, which spans from childhood to being the parent.
DeleteAccording to the publisher, the ebook version will be available soon.
Congratulations, Theresa! I love reading your poetry and am thrilled to pre-order your book.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Wendy! :)
DeleteWow. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz.
DeleteHi Theresa - that's amazing that Vine Leaves is pushing your book for you, while as you say you really should do your bit too - I know you will. It's great you're getting out and about and giving readings, talking to groups etc ... Congratulations and very good luck in the future ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilary. I think once I do my first reading, I'll feel better about reading my poetry aloud. I hope.
DeleteCongratulations on all the sales and the paperback's upcoming release. Yeah! It is an exciting and vulnerable time, I remember how I felt when my book was coming out. Your cover is fabulous! Wishing you the best of luck. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
Jess, I know you've been through a big book release! Thank you!
DeleteCongratulations, Theresa! I'm so happy for you and I know you'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanne. :)
DeleteCongratulations! It's scary to be out in the wide open world! You're already finding success, so that's a sure sign there's much more to come. I'm excited to read your book. Christy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christy. Every time I hear someone has pre-ordered, it really gives me a boost.
DeleteCongratulations, Theresa! This is exciting news. So happy for you. Wishing you much success. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen!
DeleteThis is wonderful, Theresa! You certainly deserve it, my dear. You are an excellent writer. Memoir or poetry based on life is extremely difficult to share because you make yourself vulnerable on the page. All the best to you with your new release.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Victoria. I know how hard you've worked on your memoir.
DeleteCongratulations, Maria. Wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sara!
DeleteYAY!!! That's awesome. Knowing our words are out in the world is always a difficult thing. Readings are actually easier for me than doing presentations--that's SO scary! But maybe it's because I'm reading for children. I think reading for adults would be much scarier.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, that makes sense. I hope once I do my first reading, I won't be as nervous.
Deletefantastic!! congratulations!
ReplyDeletei'll give you a shout on my blog =)
loved the poem in the previous post, too - the whole world needs to think before snapping that picture and sharing it as if other people were clipart
and thanks for stopping by my cradle rock release party =)
Tara Tyler Talks
Tara, that's so nice of you to give me a shout out! Thank you.
DeleteAnd, again, congratulations to you.
Congrats on already being a bestseller! That's fantastic news. Yep, reading aloud is a different kettle of fish from blogging, but I'm sure you'll rock. It'll be in front of poetry lovers who are interested in what you have to say.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nick. I enjoyed it while it lasted. Maybe I can get the book up there again when it releases.
DeleteYippee! So exciting. I'm beyond stoked for you. It's amazing how much more there is to do when it comes time to actually being published, eh? Keep your head on straight. Don't overbook. Stay sane!
ReplyDeleteCrystal, thanks for the advice. I know you speak from experience. I'm trying! Thanks. You know how it is--everything comes up at once. February and March are going to be busy!
DeleteTheresa,
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! Looking forward to reading it. Wish you all the best with it and future projects -- like Unstitching Sloane
Thank you, so much, Jan. Unstitching Sloane is vastly improved based on your feedback ... and much shorter!
DeleteCongratulations Theresa. I already have this...now waiting for some time.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful, Nasreen! Did you get an advance copy from Vine Leaves?
DeleteThat is so wonderful, congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deniz!
