F is for The Fixx

“Thoughts that leave me

Chasing after

My dreams disown me

Loaded with Danger”

- Song “Saved by Zero” The Fixx

When this video aired on MTV (which seemed to be every hour), I didn’t get it:

But this song came out and I started to like them.

And for an angsty teen like me, this song was perfect.

I listened to it all the time. It captured how utterly alone I felt.

He’s got an excellent mullet.

The Fixx didn’t have a lot of hits, but I have “One Thing Leads to Another” on my iPod and “Saved by Zero” is in constant rotation when I’m down.

Guess I’m an angsty adult too.

Honorable Mention: Flock of Seagulls

    1. Anne, thank you for stopping by. For those who listened to music then, I think they've enjoyed hearing the music they've forgotten.

    1. Jessica, I have a feeling most Americans don't remember them. I don't know how much radio time they got. Thanks about Vine Leaves!

    1. Alex, agreed. A few bands just had their 1-3 big songs, and then faded away.

  14. Angst is a good quality for a writer of young adult literature to have a grasp on. I'm sure it filters into your writing (or at least the memory of it).

  21. Congrats on the latest publication. How many is that now?

I liked the Fixx. At least I liked those three songs. I remember the sounds of the songs of the early '80s, that synth stuff. That I miss.

  22. Oh man, I didn't even know that was the name of the band, but yeah, I definitely remember their music. "One thing leads to another" was a great one.

And congrats! Heading over to read now! :)

  23. The Fixx weren't on my list of faves, but I can see why they appealed to a teen finding herself.

Congrats on your publication in Vines. My story got the big 'R' this time, boo hoo. Maybe next time. I'll get across to read it when I have a minute, like, after April ends...

  24. I had trouble placing The Fixx until you said One Thing...--that was a good one. I listened to Red Skies, but for some reason that does not ring a bell.

Well done Theresa and have a good weekend.

  28. How could I forget The Fixx? Seems I did, though, because it's not listed on my 1980's F list.
BTW...congrats on your publication in Vine Leaves. I need to check that out.

  30. Haha, thanks for the seagulls honorable mention!

Saved by Zero was truly a "staple" song. Is it me or are songs just not as much fun today? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

  31. I love their sound. I need to see if I have any of their mp3's.

  33. So does not getting "Red Skies" mean you missed their first album, Shuttered Room? Some great songs. You must here "Stand or Fall," a haunting classic.
